They have also been crowned champions of European football on three occasions by winning the European Cup. They experienced the most successful period in their history under the management of Alex Ferguson , who guided the team to 13 league titles in 21 years. Since Manchester United's first competitive match, players have made a competitive first-team appearance for the club. Jimmy Davis was killed in a car accident in having made one first-team appearance, the first Manchester United player to die during his career since the Munich air disaster , which claimed the lives of many of the Busby Babes , including Geoff Bent. As of 8 March , a total of players have played fewer than 25 competitive matches for the club; of these, 19 players are currently under contract with Manchester United.

Manchester United need three players in the next 12 days or else their season is over

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a pivotal summer in his first transfer window as permanent Manchester United manager having missed out on a top-four spot.

His cull began back in January when still caretaker, with Marouane Fellaini informed he was surplus to requirements. And, having missed out on the top four, Man United cannot offer Champions League football next season.

Which is why certain Man Utd players will be given a stay of execution before eventually being shown the door. Can United really afford to risk losing him for nothing at the end of next season. Probably the best reserve keeper in the Premier League. Never lets United down — and would have a case to be No1 if De Gea goes. Needs a top class partner to bring the best out of him. So much hope for him when he arrived, but a debilitating injury record, along with his rash decision-making have curtailed his progress.

Just signed a new long-term contract — and despite widespread derision, remains a valuable squad member. Like Jones, eyebrows were raised when he was handed a new deal, but has impressed alongside Lindelof and remains an effective option. Woeful injury record and has failed to convince on the increasingly rare occasions he makes it onto the pitch. Long contract and high wages make him difficult to offload.

His form has fallen off a cliff since signing his new contract recently. Can only be considered as back-up full back next season. Has shown promise — particularly as an attacking option this season — but remains raw defensively. Out of contract and on the way out. It has been a miserable final chapter for the winger-turned-right back as a virtual spectator this season. Has probably enjoyed his most consistent season.

Still developing and should establish himself as one of the best left backs in Europe, given his natural talent. But United could get decent money for a player who has rarely been anything other than a fringe member of the squad. United have never seen the player who was so effective for Chelsea. Looks to be in decline and turns 31 in August. Can do a job, but questionable whether he can be a regular starter next season. Has made his critics eat their words.

His move from Arsenal has been little short of a disaster. For a spell this season he looked every bit the heir to Thierry Henry that he was once considered. But Solskjaer has rarely been able to get a tune out of him and is frustrated by his failure to score ugly goals. Still, he has tremendous potential. As if Manchester United didn't have enough problems, they're now set to see their two fiercest rivals sweep up every trophy available to them over the next month. Manchester City could win a domestic treble. Liverpool are in the Champions League final.

Manchester United will soon have a decision to make over a number of their first-team players whose contracts are expiring across the next two summers. As is customary at United, most of the players listed below have an option of a further year in their contract that the club can activate to avoid losing them for free. However, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may still want to get a few of them off the books as he looks to rebuild his squad.

The incident has been the only blemish on a season in which he has won his first two caps for the Republic of Ireland. His future at Old Trafford remains unclear, however, with David de Gea firmly established as first-choice despite a number of errors creeping into his game. The situation has led to speculation Chelsea could bid for the year-old in the summer, although recent reports suggest United will try to tie Henderson down to a long-term deal. Can't wait for him to be United's No.

Five players Man Utd desperately need to get rid of this summer, including Pogba and Sanchez

Solskjaer appears to have the backing of United head honcho Ed Woodward, and this will presumably show in the transfer market. Despite enduring another inconsistent season under boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United appear to be hitting their stride at the right time. Last Sunday's derby victory over Manchester City was one of the club's best performances under the Norwegian and it means that they are only three points behind fourth-place Chelsea as the season draws to a close. Still competing in both the Europa League and FA Cup, and with Champions League qualification a real possibility, United have the chance to turn this season into one of real progress. Nevertheless, United will want to keep building next season and in order to do that, some signings will be required. However, the club will want to reduce their wage bill and move on several players to make way for any potential new arrivals. United's current number one has not had a great season, making three errors leading to goals — the joint second most in the league. The Spanish international has not been at his best and with Dean Henderson impressing on loan at Sheffield United, now might be the time for the club to cash in.

News Corp is a network of leading companies in the worlds of diversified media, news, education, and information services. By and large Manchester United have struggled to break down teams this season. That came in the opening weekend of the season against Chelsea and most recently in a success at Norwich. His dealings have been very good so far.

The Norwegian chief is continuing to put his stamp on the current Old Trafford squad, having now overseen two transfer windows as permanent manager. But first he is set to oversee a mass sale of his struggling stars in a bid to boost the coffers further.

One of the biggest clubs in world football, Manchester United, has witnessed a significant downturn in fortunes since the retirement of their long-standing manager Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the season. The club's performances in the last few seasons are attributable to various factors like frequent managerial changes, bad signings, and at times a lack of clarity about the way ahead. However, the appointment of club legend Ole Gunnar Solkjaer, who famously scored the injury-time winner in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou, signals a return of the club's old swagger. Manchester United, under Solkjaer, have been underwhelming at times, but the arrival of Bruno Fernandez in the winter transfer window seems to have rejuvenated the club.

Manchester United are in the midst of a crisis and have just 12 days of the transfer window to save their entire season. A loss at Anfield to Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League was not as bad as many feared, but the league table nevertheless remains a miserable sight. With only 15 games to play, they have to close a five-point gap to Chelsea in order to maintain hopes of qualifying for the Champions League through league play. There is no longer any margin of safety. The bleakest news came when it was confirmed that Marcus Rashford could be out for a couple of months.

List of Manchester United F.C. players (1–24 appearances)

Man United need to sell at least five players from their bloated and aging squad in order to become Premier League and Champions League contenders once again. The Red Devils have now lost all but one of their last five games, conceding 11 goals while crashing out of Europe at the hands of Barcelona and slipping down a peg in the race for a top-four spot in the Premier League. Whoever does end up in the new role, they will have a hell of a job on their hands. A massive clearout is required, with high-quality replacements to replace a high priority. Around 18 months ago, Alexis Sanchez would have been considered one of the best talents in the Premier League.

Man Utd players have improved dramatically under Solskjaer but there is still room for improvement with two key squad members. The year-old has scored only once in this season's European campaign and although he has shown some glimpses of his undoubted talent, has been largely inconsistent over recent weeks, as well as being hampered by injury. Martial was poor at the Nou Camp and has been off form in the league of late. His form was interrupted by injury and he has struggled for rhythm since his return.
